Commercial Roofing Specialists is Michigan’s exclusive Manufacturer’s Representative for Carlisle SynTec Systems, a leader of the commercial single-ply roofing industry for more than 50 years. Carlisle continues to lead the roofing industry today by providing its customers with superior roofing systems and services through a strategic partnership with CRS, distributors, and applicators. Carlisle’s products have been installed on a wide range of buildings around the world, including schools, hospitals, warehouses, and cold storage facilities. With more than 19 billion square feet of roofing materials sold, Carlisle continues to lead the industry by providing its valued customers with the best products, services, and warranty options available today.
As a Manufacturer’s Representative, CRS specializes in designing, developing, and implementing the best solutions for building envelope weatherproofing. We also provide technical assistance and specifications options for architects, roofing contractors, and building owners. Through our partnerships with world class distribution networks, industry professionals, and other key relationships, CRS is committed to designing, delivering, and protecting your assets.
Currently, Commercial Roofing Specialists has four industry professionals strategically located throughout the state of Michigan to service all your commercial weatherproofing needs quickly, efficiently, and effectively.
Our Team
Kim Emery, Founding Partner
1954-2019 Forever in our hearts
Kim graduated Michigan State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Science. He has over 37 years of experience in the commercial roofing industry. Kim began his career in commercial roofing by working as a full-time representative for a roofing manufacturer. He went to work for a Michigan-based roofing distributor, becoming a partner and Vice President of Sales when, after 25 years, they sold the company to a large national distributor. Kim continued as a Commercial Roofing Salesman for 12 years, and was responsible for most of Michigan excluding the Detroit Metro area. Kim was a true friend to many in the commercial roofing industry, and will be greatly missed.
Sean Metcalfe, Founding Partner
Sean was born in Germany and grew up in Michigan. He studied Marketing and Sales at CMU from 1990-1994. He joined the commercial roofing industry in 1998 with Olympic Fasteners and spent 4 years covering Michigan and Northern Indiana. After OMG he was an outside salesman for North Coast Commercial Roofing Systems for 8 years. During this time, NC grew their sales 5-fold and Sean was an integral part of that small team. Sean then accepted a position as an Outside Salesman with Louis T. Ollesheimer & Son, Inc. There, he developed new business as well as managed and grew existing accounts.
Sean’s primary responsibility as the South-East Michigan manufacturer’s representative is managing contractor accounts, facilitating business development, and statewide support for all CRS operations.
Jay Boyd, Manufacturer's Representative
Jay is a native Michigander; he started in the commercial construction industry in 1992. He has held positions including Project Analyst, Sales Manager, General Manager, and Manufacturer Representative. Jay is an honors graduate from Northwood University where he received a degree in Business Management, majoring in both Management and Marketing. He is a past member BOMA, CSI, and IFMA.
Jay’s primary responsibility as the West Michigan Carlisle representative is to promote Carlisle SynTec’s full line of commercial roofing products, business development, technical guidance, and specification writing. Previously, Jay was the General Manager of a multimillion-dollar commercial roofing company that specialized in single-ply roofing. Prior to entering the roofing industry in 2005, Jay was a senior Analyst for the Michigan Department of State where he was responsible for the oversight of construction related projects.
Zack Davis, Manufacturer's Representative
Zack is a life-long resident of Michigan where he has been in the roofing industry since 2009. He began his career at a large commercial roofing company as an assistant in the shop and worked his way up to the position of Project Manager and then to Roofing Field Superintendent. He then went to work for another large consulting and construction services firm where his role was General Manager of the Construction Services Group Roofing division. Zack serves as an Industry Director on the Board of Directors RCI Great Lakes Chapter, and is a member of the CSI Metro Detroit Chapter.
Zack’s primary responsibility as the South-East Michigan Carlisle Representative is to promote Carlisle SynTec’s full line of commercial roofing products, roof system design, technical guidance, and specification writing with a focus on Building Owners, Architects, Consultants, and Roofing Contractors.
John Horwath, Manufacturer's Representative
John currently resides in Detroit, though he grew up in Vassar, Michigan. Graduating from Alma College in 2010 with a BS in Science and Environmental Studies, he jumped into the roofing industry in 2011 with the Dow Chemical Company and their solar roofing division. Following his time at Dow, John went to work with a local roofing company in Saginaw, where he was a project manager and estimator selling both residential and commercial roofing products. John then went back into solar roofing before joining Carlisle Syntec Systems in 2019. He is currently an active member of CSI Metro Detroit Chapter, MiRCA, and IIBEC Great Lakes Chapter.
John’s responsibilities as a Manufacturer’s Representative are to promote Carlisle SynTec’s full line of commercial roofing products, Drexel Metals roof and wall panel systems, Henry coatings and sealants, and Georgia-Pacific’s DensDeck products. He works closely with Building Owners, Architects, Consultants, and Roofing Contractors to provide them the best solutions to their buildings.
Kelly Laszlo, Sales Support specialist
Kelly joined CRS in 2022 after a career in childhood education and more recently as an office administrator at a large logistics company. She holds a BA in Elementary Education from the University of Toledo. Kelly enjoys lake living in Fenton with her three children. She is an avid swimmer, loves the outdoors, and is passionate about the mission work she has done in Haiti.
Kelly manages our Hartland office by providing supporting our sales team, contractors, and distribution partners.
